Foster care is important to our hearts here at Jenkins Pest Control because we have been foster parents for over 8 years and believe that every child deserves a place to call home and a place to feel loved. We as foster parents have had several children in our home and have adopted 4 of our 5 children from foster care.

There are approximately 440,000 foster children nationwide (approximately 9,113 in Tennessee) who need a safe, nurturing, loving family. These numbers continue to increase due to factors such as parental opioid addiction and the need for foster parents is higher than the supply. There are many reasons and circumstances that children become foster children such as their biological parents can’t meet the needs of their children, which include poverty, substance abuse, mental illness, homelessness, loss of a job, or lack of support from extended family. This creates adverse environments that can cause PTSD, delayed development and emotional issues, among other things. As a foster parent, you can provide a safe, loving atmosphere and a place that a child can call home. This has the power to change a child’s trajectory. As a foster parent, you have the chance to set a good example of what a stable, loving household is like. Healthy relationships and positive guidance from adults teach children how to do the same. In turn, they’ll use these lessons to raise their own children. Breaking the cycle of abuse and trauma can help improve this behavior. This benefits future generations and breaks the cycle of children ending up in foster care.
